1000mods have been around for a long time now, and with Cheat Death, they’ve definitely cranked things up. The band’s classic heavy rock sound is still there, but this album feels a little different – more intense, more raw. It’s like they’ve taken that familiar heaviness and added a bit more grit and punch to it. This one feels like it was made to hit hard, and it absolutely does.
First things first: this album is loud, and it’s heavy. The guitars are thick and meaty, and the riffs hit you right in the chest. There’s no subtlety here – it’s all about the impact. The drums feel fast and urgent, and that low-end bass just rumbles through everything, grounding the chaos around it. It’s got a real presence in the mix, and you feel it as much as you hear it.
The vocals are a little different here too. There’s still that same rough edge, but they’ve got more melody this time. It’s not just screaming – there’s a bit more control and range. That adds a nice contrast to the heaviness and makes the album feel a little more dynamic, without losing any of the aggression.
What I really like about Cheat Death is how tight everything sounds. The heaviness is there, but it’s not messy. The guitars and drums are all in sync, and there’s a clarity in the mix that lets every part of the music breathe. It’s a big, full sound, but it doesn’t get lost in itself.
The pacing of the album is solid too. It’s high-energy, but it doesn’t feel like it’s just one big blur of noise. Each song has its own space, and the flow from one track to the next keeps things moving without overstaying its welcome.
That said, by the middle of the album, the intensity does start to feel a little repetitive. There’s a lot of power here, but a slight change in tempo or a slower song here and there might have made it feel even more impactful. As it stands, it’s all very much in the same lane—heavy, fast, and hard. A little variation could’ve kept things fresh throughout.
Also, if you’re used to their earlier, more laid-back style, this album might take a minute to get used to. It’s heavier and darker than their past work, so it might feel like a shift. But honestly, it works – this new direction feels natural for them.
Overall, Cheat Death is a strong album. It takes everything we love about 1000mods and just dials it up a notch. It’s raw, it’s heavy, and it’s got a little more bite than their previous records. If you’ve been a fan for a while, you’ll appreciate the energy they’ve put into this one. It’s a solid listen from start to finish, even if the intensity does wear you down a bit after a while. Either way, it’s a great record that proves 1000mods are still in top form.
