When you put on VAST PYRE’s debut album, you’re in for a memorable ride through some seriously heavy, dark music. This is Stoner Doom at its core – big, slow riffs that just roll over you, pulling you into this almost hypnotic state. If you’re into bands like Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, or Sleep, you’ll feel right at home here.
The whole album feels like it’s drenched in this deep sense of doom and gloom, but it’s not just noise – it’s carefully crafted. The band decided to skip having a bass guitar, instead using their guitars to fill out the sound. The result is this huge, thick wall of noise that hits hard and just keeps coming.
The tracks on the album don’t rush. They take their time (9-12 minutes each), letting the riffs loop and build until you’re totally wrapped up in the sound. It’s almost like a ritual, with each song pulling you deeper into this dark, slow-burning vibe. The drums keep things grounded with a steady, almost trance-like beat, while the vocals feel like they’re coming from some deep, distant place, adding to the eerie mood.
Even though you can hear the influence of classic Stoner Doom bands, VAST PYRE brings something fresh to the table. They’ve managed to take those familiar elements and push them in a direction that feels new and unique.
