Witching Chronicles: Exploring The GREENLEAF’s Revolution Rock Deluxe

For over 25 years, Greenleaf has been one of the real ones. What started as a loose jam between friends turned into a full-blown force of heavy rock, keeping the spirit of ‘70s riff-driven music alive without feeling like a throwback act. Now, Revolution Rock Deluxe takes us back to the raw, early days – thanks to Blues Funeral Recordings dusting off and reissuing some of their earliest work. For longtime fans, it’s a trip back to the roots. For newcomers, it’s a crash course in how thick, fuzzed-out rock is supposed to sound.

Drop the needle, and you’re instantly hit with pure, unpolished heaviness. This isn’t the more structured Greenleaf we know today, nor is it the big, desert-rock power they’d eventually perfect. These tracks are looser, wilder – built on massive riffs, bluesy swagger, and a whole lot of muscle. Tommi Holappa’s guitar is, as always, front and center, slinging one scorching lick after another. The production is raw, but that’s what makes it work. There’s an immediacy here, a grit you don’t get with today’s polished studio tricks. It sounds alive.

Revolution Rock Deluxe got that reckless energy of early stoner rock, the weight of Sabbath, the dirt of Nebula, the rolling momentum of Kyuss. But Greenleaf never felt like a band just following the blueprint. Even in these formative recordings, you can hear the chemistry – the way the band locks in together, the way the songs move with a natural, unforced flow. It’s the sound of a band figuring itself out, but already doing something special.

The Revolution Rock Deluxe cover nails the album’s vibe – pure, analog heaviness. A vintage reel-to-reel tape deck, glowing meters, and worn-out knobs set the tone for raw, unpolished rock. The Greenleaf logo fades into the metal, like it’s always been there, a perfect match for the thick, fuzzed-out riffs waiting inside.

Blues Funeral’s Jadd Shickler summed it up best: “The Greenleaf on this album is a pretty different band than the one who exists today, but Tommi’s riffs are the common thread that connects all their incarnations… and honestly, all you need are Tommi’s riffs to have something worth blasting endlessly through the years.” And that’s exactly what you get here: riffs on riffs, meant to be played loud, meant to last.

With a deluxe 2xLP gatefold and digipak CD release – plus a super-limited PostWax Unlimited vinyl edition – this isn’t just an old album getting reissued. It’s a reminder of what makes heavy rock timeless. No frills, no compromises – just big riffs, deep grooves, and a love for the sound that refuses to fade. Whether you’re coming back to these songs or hearing them fresh, Revolution Rock Deluxe is a must-have piece of Greenleaf’s legacy.
